fbpx A better understanding of intracranial pressure changes after brain injury | HMRI

This is the likely explanation for the late (24 hours) deterioration that occurs in many patients after stroke, and if we can prevent this (with body cooling) we can reduce disability from stroke. These studies would be aimed at getting the data needed for a major grant application to the NHMRC.

We will use the funds to pay for:

  • Experimental animals and housing
  • Surgical and anaesthetic equipment and supplies
  • Catheters for monitoring the intracranial pressure
  • Laboratory consumables (microscope slides, chemicals, etc)

This work has enormous potential to change the way we treat stroke, and potentially other brain disorders associated with changes in pressure within the brain.
